Attire

Gentlemen wear white tie and tails and ladies wear ball gowns.

Lady guests adorn their escorts with extravagantly decorated hats, boutonnieres, and sashes often made of flowers and sometimes other trinkets or mementos. These adornments contribute to the gaiety, revelry, and hilarity of the evening. See History to read about the origins of this custom.

Chivalry

In exchange for the gentleman graciously accepting his handsome adornments and wearing them proudly while being made to look slightly ridiculous, he is entitled to chivalrous indulgences by his lady guests for the duration of the evening. Ladies fetch drinks, cut-in, pull out chairs, open doors, and perhaps even pay the taxi fare. ~
